Welcome to a New School Year!

The new 2018-2019 school year has begun with a great start!  We are implementing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) stations in our library.  Also students are truly enjoying the Robotics station as they learn to code and program Dash Robots!  All of this while increasing reading and comprehension skills!  We now have a new Viewsonic Interactive Viewboard that we are loving too!!!  Thank you to parents and families who contribute to our book fair fundraisers and other events that help supply our library with these fun tools.

ACTE State Tech Fair

We are so proud of Mia Matthews and Ayden Rosenberger for being selected at the ACTE Regional Tech Fair to attend the ACTE State Tech Fair at Auburn University Montgomery.  Mia and Ayden impressed the judges with their project created on the iPad using Storybook Maker.  The story they created was "Grace's Adventure".

Mitchell Learns on iPads

Mitchell students have really enjoyed learning on iPads while in the Library!  Take a look at this video:)

3rd Grade Participates in Global Read Aloud


Our 3rd Grade students have been reading the book Marty Maguire along with other students from around the U.S. and world.  The classes have been blogging on KidBlog using the iPads.  Mrs. Roberts' class is connecting with a class from Glen Ellyn, IL.  Click here to check out Mrs. Roberts' Class blog.  Classes from Ben Franklin Elementary have  sent a video to Mrs. Roberts' class and they are blogging about the book together.  Mrs. Upton's class is connecting with a class from Bassett, Nebraska.  Click here to check out their blog.  Mrs. Wright's class is connecting with a class from Dallas, TX-  Click here to check out Mrs. Wright's class blog.  All classes will be Skyping with the other classes from around the U.S. upon completion of the book.
In the story, Marty Maguire, Marty plays in a creek beside the school.  We discussed ecosystems and students created pictures of ecosystems.  Check out this video.

3rd Grade participates in Global Read Aloud

Our 3rd grade students are very excited about reading the book "Marty Maguire" with students from across the U.S.!  Each 3rd grade class has been connected to another class from across the U.S. and will Skype with these classes once we are finished reading the book.  Mrs. Roberts' class has connected with a class from Glen Ellyn, Illinois and they sent a video introducing their class


3rd Grade students are also using Kidblog to blog with these classes from Illinois, Nebraska and Texas.

Storybook Christmas 2012

Storybook Christmas 2012 was a wonderful opportunity for Mitchell students to hear all kinds of Christmas stories read by volunteers in the community. Students were visited by Mary Margaret McCord, Miss Alabama USA. She read a story and talked about her involvement in Miss Alabama USA.

First Day of School

Welcome back to Mitchell Elementary for the 2012-2013 School Year! We are very excited about some of the new changes this year. One of the most exciting is our new online Catalog. Destiny is a web-based catalog meaning anyone can access it from the Internet. The following link provides access to our online catalog (Destiny) and offers information on all of the books and other materials that can be checked out by Mitchell Elementary School students. You can browse this catalog with your child and help them select "just the right book for him or her ." Click on "Destiny" to go to the Mitchell Elementary Library catalog.

Read Across America Skype with Detroit, Michigan

Mr. Graham's Fifth Grade skyped with Mr. Curran's Fourth grade in Detroit, Michigan as both classes read the book Regarding the Fountain by Kate Klise. The students shared their favorite parts from the book and ended the skype session by reading "NEA's Read Across America Reader's Oath.
